When a powerful and mysterious force invades an American city, a young father must traverse the battle-torn city in an effort to save his wounded wife and rescue their stranded children. In the process, our hero becomes the target of an enemy who will stop at nothing to kill him.

The story will follow a medium who convinces her husband to kidnap a child so she can help the police solve the crime and achieve renown for her abilities. When her true intentions come to light, however, her husband realizes the plan threatens to consume them both. The novel was previously adapted as a film in 1964 starring Richard Attenborough and Kim Stanley.

Centred on an exchange of knowledge and experience between an indigenous Ainu elder and a filmmaker during the early stages of her pregnancy, Scent Line on a Moving Mountain pays close attention to the sensations of a type of ecological relationship that is no longer commonly practiced in Hokkaido, Japan. We see the two women foraging and cooking together, finding abundance where it isn’t immediately apparent.
